Jumping crocodile
Wildlife along the Adelaide River
The Adelaide River is a 148 miles long river situated in the Northern Territory close to the city of Darwin. It flows within the Djukbinj National Park and the Litchfield National Park. Moreover, it is renown for its variety of exotic animals. Saltwater crocodiles or simply called salties, freshwater crocodiles, bull sharks, bats and sea eagles can be found in a high concentration along the river (Adelaide River Cruise, 2019; Adelaide River Tours, 2019).
What is 6 metres long, weights 1,000 kg and reaches far our of the water?
Obvious!: the salty
Watching the saltie is the main attraction for tourists and a real eye-catcher. The saltie is also known as the Jumping Crocodile, as it is able to jump high out of the water. Boat trips are provided by local companies, where you can see the Jumping Crocodiles in action. By means of a fishing rod the travel guides try to attract the salties with meat cuts. By reaching several metres high out of the water the crocodiles grab the meat cuts and gobbles it up (Bradtke, 2019). Would you dare to join that trip?
